Foodbanks and Food Pantries

As the cost of living rises, people are juggling how the household income is best spent and may be making difficult decisions to choose how money is spent.

Food Pantries are also a great resource, not only for people to access nutritious low cost food but to also help reduce food wastage.

Accessing healthy affordable food

The Foundation partners with local organisations to deliver the ‘Your Local Pantry’ model, to increase access to local food pantries across Liverpool and St Helens.

For only £3.50 - £5 per week (location dependent), members get access to food including fresh fruit and vegetables and store cupboard favourites, which could often provide goods valued between £15-20 or more!

The Foundation and Torus may also be able to help provide a Foodbank voucher. If you're a Torus customer and think you need this support please don't hesitate to contact the team below.

Head to The Bread and Butter Thing who currently has three food pantries located across Warrington - Members — Bread and Butter Thing £7l50 per week but leave with a good amount of items to take home!

Healthy Start Vouchers

If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, you may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk.

You need to apply through the Government link below and if you pass all the criteria needed, they will send you a Healthy Start Card with money on it that you can use in some shops. They will also add your benefit onto this card every four weeks.

The card can be used to buy:

  • Plain liquid cow’s milk
  • Fresh, frozen
  • plain liquid cow’s milk
  • fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit and vegetables
  • fresh, dried, and tinned pulses
  • infant formula milk based on cow’s milk

You can also use your card to collect:

  • Healthy Start vitamins – these support you during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • vitamin drops for babies and young children – these are suitable from birth to 4 years old
