Torus Foundation is committed to being involved with projects that work towards the common goal for stronger communities.

The pandemic has proven that there’s still a lot of work to be done to enhance access to low cost food, and by collaborating with key partners, the Foundation is contributing to the provision of reliable, affordable and nutritious food for Torus tenants and wider communities.

This is being achieved with financial contributions to foodbanks, ongoing weekly urgent food parcels, prepared meals for families through Medicash funding, and the Foundation is also working alongside community organisations to increase access to low cost food through food pantries.

Launched last week, a new food pantry was opened at Christ Church, Toxteth Park in South Liverpool, following the ‘Your Local Pantry’ franchise model.

The member-run food club is a joint project, supported by Torus Foundation with funding from Liverpool City Council and in collaboration with South Liverpool Food Bank who are the lead organisation for the South Liverpool Food Pantry network.

Helen Cibinda Ntale, Head of Health and Wellbeing, Torus Foundation says,

“The Foundation is thrilled to have been able to support the new pantry and provide funding from our work with Liverpool City Council.

“Such facilities help build a strong sense of community and this incredible resource is not only for those who may need that extra bit of support longer term, but for those who are increasingly becoming more food conscious and helping to reduce food waste.

“This is part of a wider piece of work across South Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington and we’re looking forward to further collaboration to increase impact and reach even more people.”

Made possible by dedicated volunteers, local members can access the food pantry to purchase nutritious food and essential items for only £3.50 per visit.

No matter your circumstance, all members of the community are welcome to become a member, as long as you live within a close distance to the pantries. For example, the Christ Church, Toxteth Park pantry welcomes all residents living within the L17 postcode.
